Fresh goat cheese's mildly nutty flavour allows it to be equally at home as a table cheese or as an ingredient. Figs are a particularly ideal counterpart to goat cheese. Other non-citrus fruits, such as pears, grapes, and apples, complement (and are complemented by) the flavour of fresh goat cheese.
An ever-increasing number of gourmet chefs have begun to discover goat cheese as an ingredient, substituting it for cow's milk cheese in a wide variety of recipes. They will most likely never have thought of preparing cheesecake with chevre (as goat cheese is also known). Or how about turkey goat cheese burgers? The soft cheese also fits in perfectly in spinach and Greek salads. Whether in a cream sauce for fettucine or as a toping for pork chops, the delicate flavour will not necessarily reinvent recipes so much as accent their original allure.
When pairing red wine with fresh goat cheese, opt for a lighter wine that will not overpower the cheese, such as a pinot noir. Aged goat cheese makes a great companion to burgundy.
HOW LONG DOES GOAT CHEESE STAY FRESH?
Our fresh goat cheese generally will stay fresh for months in the manufacturers packaging. Please check best before date. The cheese will stay fresh only about a week upon opening it. Shoppers tend to buy aged goat cheese when they are ready to use it. Once opened remove cheese from original packing and rewrap in fresh plastic wrap.
