Harvey H. Ashmead, Ph.D., founded the firm in 1956, in a rented building in Ogden. The company had humble beginnings. Ashmead invested all of his money, $250, to start Albion. In 1970 the company’s offices and research facilities were moved to Clearfield. Since that time, this privately owned enterprise has rapidly expanded and currently has several domestic and foreign subsidiaries.

Ongoing sophisticated research has been and will continue to be the key to Albion’s success. It already has received over 70 patents and several more are pending. Virtually all patents in the field of amino acid mineral chelates have been awarded to Albion. The current president is Dr. H. DeWayne Ashmead, Ph.D. in nutrition and author of several books. In cooperation with the United Nations, Albion has helped develop agricultural and nutritional programs for a number of countries, including Ivory Coast, Abu Dhabi, Brazil, Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Greece, and Egypt, to mention a few.
