PJ's Coffee Of New Orleans Responds To The Yerba Mate Craze

Atlanta, GA - If you've seen the film "The Motorcycle Diaries," you might wonder what Ernesto and Alberto were drinking as they made their way across South America. The answer: yerba mate. Yerba maté is a traditional South American beverage – and ritual – that is sipped from hollowed, decorated gourds with straws and often shared by a group of friends…and is now touted as the ‘it' beverage in the United States.

PJ's Coffee of New Orleans, celebrating thirty years of roasting and serving the south's premier coffee, announces the introduction of yerba maté in its coffeehouses, now featured in PJ's Energy Latte for a limited time. PJ's has teamed up with the leading provider of yerba maté, Pixie Maté, to offer its customers what Time Magazine calls a "Taste of the Future."

With a taste similar to Chai, yerba maté is an herbal green ‘tea' grown in the sub-tropical rain forest climate of Paraguay, Argentina and southern Brazil. It has a reputation as a nutritious tonic that not only stimulates the body (providing vigor and energy) but also stimulates the mind (promoting mental acuity and clarity). PJ's Energy Latte provides as much caffeine as a strong brew of drip coffee and has more antioxidants than nine servings of green tea.

"Steamed with milk to form a high energy latte or blended with milk and served chilled, PJ's Energy Latte, offers our customers the latest in specialty beverages that is known to fight fatigue, aid digestion and boost energy, notes Felton Jones, master roaster, PJ's Coffee of New Orleans. "We were pleased to find this unique and alternative beverage to add to our existing coffee and tea offerings."

PJ's Coffee will offer its Energy Latte for a limited time at participating locations. The suggested retail price ranges from $2.95 for a small to $3.85 for a large.
