Cargill Citric Acid Plant on Schedule

Cargill has announced that the construction of a citric acid plant adjacent to its corn wet milling facility in Brazil is well underway and on schedule. The facility is expected to be in operation by early 2000.

The export-oriented plant, representing a capital investment of more than $50 million, will complement the activities of Cargill's global citric acid business unit, which also has a citric acid plant in Eddyville, IA, according to Jack Staloch, VP and general manager for worldwide acidulants. The new plant will have the capability to use either sugar or corn as feedstock for the fermentation process, and will employ about 50 people.
