Francesco Rinaldi® Supports National Salt Reduction Initiative
Brand Known for Restaurant Quality Italian Flavor Commits to Lower Sodium Across Product Lines
Fairport, NY./PRNewswire/ - Francesco Rinaldi Pasta Sauces yesterday formally announced its support of the National Sodium Reduction Initiative led by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Chronic Disease Prevention and Control. Americans consume roughly twice the recommended limit of salt each day, with nearly 80 percent of the sodium consumed added to foods before they are sold.(1) The goal of the initiative is to cut the salt in packaged and restaurant foods by 25 percent over five years. If that goal is met, it would reduce the nation's salt intake by 20 percent.
Francesco Rinaldi has long been a leader in providing better-for-you options that taste as good as they sound, having already introduced Francesco Rinaldi No Salt Added Traditional Pasta Sauce in 1985. Most recently, the brand launched the new Francesco Rinaldi ToBe Healthy line- four reduced sodium, no sugar added pasta sauces fortified with 64mg of DHA Omega 3 per serving.
"We are proud to continue our commitment to providing low or no sodium options by taking part in the National Sodium Reduction Initiative," says Edward Salzano, COO/Executive Vice President, LiDestri Foods. "By making careful, measured reductions to the salt content in our pasta sauce varieties, we can continue to offer consumers the same great tasting products they have grown to love, now with healthier sodium levels."
Over the next four years the brand plans to gradually lower the sodium levels in their pasta sauce offerings to meet the targets established by the initiative.
