The guaraná shrub has a remarkable history. It was the sacred tree of the Maués Indians. It gave them nourish-ment and was known to help treat many of their ailments. A tonic made of the infusion of guaraná seeds was staple in their diet. They would drink it during their long fishing and hunting trips to maintain energy and prevent fatigue.
