Nutrinova expands into fiber

Nutrinova Nutrition Specialties & Food Ingredients GmbH (Frankfurt, Germany)—the manufacturer of acesulfame-K and food protection ingredients—intends to establish a new global market position in the fiber market. With its new fiber ingredient, Caromax, and the recently announced international distribution cooperation with Opta Food Ingredients (Bedford, MA), Nutrinova has set up fundamental new activities outside the present core business and intends to use the opportunity to become stronger in the area of functional additives. According to the company, the fiber market is growing twice as fast as the market for traditional food additives.

Nutrinova will shortly begin the international market introduction of the fiber Caromax in addition to Opta's fiber and bran lines. Caromax is an insoluble fiber with a cholesterol-reduction effect.

"Dietary Fibers with additional health benefit fit very nicely into our product portfolio," said Arthur Steinmetz, president and CEO of Nutrinova. "With the calorie-free sweetener Sunett as well as with our food protecting sorbates we are already contributing to the healthy nutrition of consumers. We see a very promising future for the fiber activities and are committed to strengthen our position through further own developments and alliances."

Martin Jager, head of innovation and market introduction at Nutrinova, stressed that in the area of functional foods innovations frequently come from the additive manufacturers.

"With our international know-how and our technical competence, we can give our customers important impulses for their new products," said Jager. "For a long time Nutrinova has been working closely with customers in applications development."
