Rice Starches

This manufacturer is the only company in North America to produce rice starches.
This manufacturer is the only company in North America to produce rice starches. Their unique mechanical starch separation process avoids the waste disposal problems of traditional alkali extraction procedures; the starches produced by the CNP process have unique performance characteristics. They are raw, native starches and are not modified in any manner. Because the starches are spray dried, and still contain residual rice proteins, their physical appearance is that of a 20-80 micron spherical agglomeration of rice starch granules. Rice starch granules are typically 4-9 microns in diameter and among the smallest granule size of all starches.

Certified organic variations of both products are available by special order.

StarchPlus SPR provides short-textured gels that are preferred for sauces, gravies, beverages and puddings. It has better acid pH performance than observed for alkali extracted starches. It performs well in aseptic and retort applications and has modest resistance to syneresis during freeze-thaw.

StarchPlus SPW-LP is a waxy rice starch. With greater than 98% amylopectin, it yields very long textured gels with fatty mouthfeel. This starch has excellent, multi-cycle freeze-thaw stability and is the product of choice for frozen applications such as low fat frozen desserts.

Rice starches have been used in specialty applications in cosmetics and paper finishes. Milling either of one of these starches readily yields a –635 mesh powder for incorporation into dusting powders. They are also Kosher certified by Orthodox Union.
