Safeway Inc. Voluntarily Recalls Safeway SELECT Chocolate Truffle Ice Cream

PLEASANTON, CALIF. (April 13) BUSINESS WIRE -April 13, 1999--Safeway Inc. announced today it is voluntarily recalling one-half gallon Safeway SELECT Chocolate Truffle Ice Cream.

The ice cream is sold in round containers and identified with the following information which is contained on the side band of the lid: Best Before OCT 04 99 A series of 6 numbers XXXXXX No. 53-38

The product is being recalled because it may contain almonds which are not listed on the ingredient label. Almonds may cause a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction in some people. No illnesses have been reported to date.

This product may have been distributed in Northern California, Western Nevada, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Alaska, Montana, and to 12 Pak 'n Save stores in Northern California as well as exported to the Middle East.

Consumers who have the half-gallon of Safeway SELECT Chocolate Truffle Ice Cream with the code information stated above may return a clean, empty carton to their local store for a refund. Consumers with questions may call 925/944-4056.
