Tabaksblat Retires as Unilever Chairman

Morris Tabaksblat, chairman of Unilever N.V. and vice-chairman of Unilever PLC, will retire at the annual general meetings of shareholders on May 4, 1999, after having reached the set age limit. Subject to the customary condition of his reappointment by the General Meetings of Shareholders in May, Antony Burgmans will be appointed chairman of Unilever N.V. and vice-chairman of Unilever PLC.

By the time he retires, Tabaksblat will have served at Unilever for almost 35 years, 15 of those have been as a director and the last five as chairman. Burgmans joined the company in 1972 and is currently vice-chairman of Unilever N.V.. He has been a director since 1991.
