Techtron & Rytron PPS
Product Profile:
- Excellent chemical resistance
- Essentially zero moisture absorption
- Machines to tight tolerances
- Excellent alternative to PEEK at lower temperatures
PPS (polyphenylene sulfide) products offer the broadest resistance to chemicals of any advanced engineering plastic. They have no known solvents below 392°F (200°C) and offer inertness to steam, strong bases, fuels and acids. Minimal moisture absorption (See Figure 21) and a very low coefficient of linear thermal expansion, combined with DSM-EPP's proprietary stress relieving process, make these PPS products ideally suited for precise tolerance machined components. In addition, PPS products exhibit excellent electrical characteristics and are inherently flame retardant.
Techtron PPS Unlike filled PPS products, Techtron PPS is easily machined to close tolerances. It is ideal for structural applications in corrosive environments or as a PEEK replacement at lower temperatures. Techtron PPS is off white in color. Techtron CM PPS is the compression molded version of unfilled PPS. It is black in color.
Techtron HPV PPS
Polyphenylene sulphide (PPS)
This reinforced, internally lubricated polyphenylene sulphide grade demonstrates a valuable combination of properties including wear resistance, load-bearing capabilities and dimensional stability, when exposed to chemicals and high temperature environments.
TECHTRON HPV PPS finds its applications where PA, POM, PET, PEI and PSU fall short of where PI, PEEK and PAI are over-engineered and a more economical solution must be found.
Thanks to the uniformly dispersed internal lubricant, TECHTRON HPV PPS exhibits excellent wear resistance and a low coefficient of friction. It overcomes the disadvantages of virgin PPS caused by a high coefficient of friction, and of glass fibre reinforced PPS which can cause premature wear of the counterface in moving-part applications. It goes without saying that these features, in combination with its excellent chemical resistance, offer numerous application possibilities to TECHTRON HPV PPS in all kinds of industries.
Main Characteristics:
- very high max. allowable service temperature in air (220°C continuously, going up to 260°C for short periods of time)
- high mechanical strength, stiffness and creep resistance, also at elevated temperatures
- excellent wear and frictional behavior
- excellent chemical and hydrolysis resistance very good dimensional stability
- good electrical insulating and dielectric properties
- inherent low flammability
- excellent resistance against high energy radiation
40% Glass-rein-forced Ryton PPS
This product is the most recognized PPS. It is the compression molded analogue to Ryton R4 resin. It offers better dimensional stability and thermal performance than Techtron PPS and maintains its strength to above 425°F (220°C).
Bearing-grade Ryton PPS
Bearing-grade Ryton is internally lubricated and carbon fiber reinforced offering a low coefficient of thermal expansion and uncompromised chemical resistance. It is well suited for thrust or wear applications or when an electrically conductive material is required.DSM Engineering Plastic Products, 2120 Fairmont Ave., PO Box 14235, Reading, PA 19612-4235.
