Versatile TranSlicer 2500® Cutter from Urschel Maximizes Product Quality and Improves Labor Efficiency

Source: Urschel Laboratories, Inc.

The patented TranSlicer 2500® Cutter from Urschel Laboratories achieves one-, two- and three-dimensional cutting in a single pass to meet food processors' growing need for high-speed slicing/shredding of leafy vegetables for ready-made salads and a range of other products. With the TranSlicer 2500's optional halving knife, food processors can reduce labor costs by reducing the need for operators to pre-cut product. The TranSlicer 2500 gentle product guiding and production-proven cutting principles maximize product quality and extend product shelf life. Processors benefit additionally through the broad range of julienne knives available and variety of slicing knife and julienne cutting wheel configurations.

Urschel's TranSlicer 2500 accepts input of compressible food products up to 8 inches (203 mm) in diameter, or firm, round products up to 6-3/4 inches (171mm) in diameter. The TranSlicer 2500 is ideal for leafy vegetables such as romaine, radicchio, cabbage, endive and spinach as well as other produce such as carrots, celery, potatoes, onions, pineapple, cantaloupe, honeydew and certain cooked beef shreds.

Featuring Urschel's innovative cutting and product handling principles, the TranSlicer 2500 increases product yield by minimizing objectionable slab cuts and bruised and fine pieces. The result is a clean, uniform cut at high production capacities.

The TranSlicer 2500 produces flat slices from 1/32 to 3-1/2 inches (0.8 to 89 mm) thick, shreds with thickness from 1/32 to 9/32 inches (0.8 to 7.1 mm) and length from 3/8 to 3 inches (9.5 to 76.2 mm) or the length of the product, and julienne sizes ranging from 3/8 x 3/8 inches (9.5 x 9.5 mm) to as large as 3 x 2 inches (76.2 x 50.8 mm).

Product fed into the TranSlicer 2500 travels through two sets of v-belts. The first set of v-belts orients and brings the product up to speed. The second set of v-belts is synchronized with the cutting wheel which assures proper advance of product per revolution of the cutting wheel. The cutting wheel consists of slightly twisted knives under tension that serve as uniform-pitched spokes positioned between the hub and the rim. The pitch, number of knives and belt speed maintain the advance of product, which determines cut thickness. Knives for two-dimensional cutting of soft-product are available. An optional halving knife placed ahead of the cutting wheel produces a longitudinal cut for a three-dimensional cut.

The simple design of the TranSlicer 2500 features hinged access panels that ease maintenance and cleaning. The durable stainless steel construction further enhances sanitation.

Designed for continuous operation, the high-speed, high-capacity TranSlicer 2500 gently cuts up to 30,000 pounds (13,600 kg) of lettuce an hour (cleaned in field).
