In October, 1999, the FDA granted approval for health-claim labeling of foods that are considered to be low-fat, low cholesterol foods and that provide 6.25 grams of soy protein per serving. The claim reads "diets low in saturated fat and cholesterol that include 25 grains of soy protein a day may reduce the risk of heart disease".
